The long-awaited second post in the series of conversations with people who left behind medically-based psychiatric solutions to their problems in living and who've found their own varied paths back to themselves and their own ways to understand the challenges they go through.
I speak to Strawberry about his life journey. From dealing with the effects of a traumatic childhood to their years on psychiatric medication and their early knowing that there’s a much better way to live than to be pacified by drugs and sidelined from life. Strawberry's connection to authentic friends and community, his grassroots groups for survivors of psychiatry and zines and art about their experience as a former patient and many other topics has helped him heal and has shaped his life purposefully.
Strawberry Pancake Nopales (he/they/ki/berry) is a community organizer, writer, artist, and zine maker. He has been involved with radical mental health for 19 years including co-creating trainings and facilitating support outside of the medical model. He co-founded the Las Vegas Radical Mental Health Collective and the Eugene Radical Mental Health Collective.
